the problem.

Due to a lack of interest in local council elections, declining trust in public representatives and a misunderstanding of politics, there has been a low rate of participation of 18-29 year olds in the Victorian local council elections.

the insight.

Voting in council elections are a necessary requirement for those who are invested in their future and can help the daily lives of the community as a whole.

the idea.

Introducing a cute mascot into the advertisements entices the younger audience to vote and sets the tone that the council elections are not as dry or uninteresting as they may seem to them.

M V/O: “Larry, what’s wrong? I thought you liked relaxing at the park.”

*Dejected tone*

Larry: “Meow.”

M V/O: “You feel unhappy by all the trash and littering around you?”

Larry: (in an agreeing tone) “Meow.”

M V/O: “Alright, can I please have everyone's attention? Larry here is trying to relax, but he can’t with all the trash around. Let’s make a change around here and get things done ourselves. So, I say we vote! Make Larry Happy!

(1SEC) *cheering*

Announcer: “Let’s come together as a community to make Larry happy, send in your ballot pack before the 23rd of October. For more information on how your say can improve Larry’s future, visit vec.vic.gov.au.”
